AWARDS: Outfest (International Special Mention)
Four exuberant, colorful episodes plunge us into the long nights and hazy mornings of a group of young bohemians and the army boy they adopt as one of their own. As the film's young heroes battle homophobia and gender discrimination of all kinds, they remain empowered by each other, dancing through it all, and their sense of pride is truly inspiring. Recipient of a Special Mention in the International Competition at this year's Outfest.
Filipe Matzembacher and Marcio Reolon are directors from the far south of Brazil who are interested in telling stories focusing on conflicts inherently linked to youth and sexuality. They began their careers as actors, which has led them to pay close attention to acting in their films. Immediately after graduating from film school, they founded their own production company, Avante Filmes. Their short films have been screened around the world at major film festivals. Their debut feature, SEASHORE (BEIRA-MAR), premiered in Berlinale Forum 2015. Their second feature film THE FADING LIGHT OF NEONBOY (GAROTO NEON) won the Hubert Bals Fund for Script and Project Development and is planned to be shot in the second semester of 2016. In addition to their work as filmmakers, both work as producers and programmers for two film festivals in their hometown, Porto Alegre. They have also directed music videos and TV series, such as THE NEST (O NINHO), to be aired in 2016.
